Warehouse rack decking adds a wire mesh support surface to standard step-beam pallet racks. This helps when one rack level handles pallets, stack racks, and crates with different base widths. The deck covers the space between the two beams, so the container base has support across the rack level rather than only at its contact points. U-channel supports sit in the beam steps and carry deck weight to the beams. During forklift placement, this added surface gives the load a wider supported area if it is set slightly forward or back. Wire mesh also lets sprinkler water pass through the level.

The number and position of U-channel supports can be specified with the required loading capacity. For U.S. rack programs, 2.5 × 4 in. mesh with 5-gauge wire is a common configuration. Other mesh sizes and wire diameters can be discussed when the container base needs different support.

Punching equipment forms the support channel sections before the mesh and supports are joined.
